Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by Hugh Wheeler, from an adaptation by Christopher Bond
Director: Michael Lluberes
Welcome to the squalid underbelly of Victorian London: corruption runs rampant, beggars line the streets, and the fetid rot of injustice leaves the air as foul as the meat pies. On the bright side, an excellent new barber just opened up shop on Fleet Street, and from the look of things, he’s going to make a killing… Witness Stephen Sondheim’s macabre masterpiece stripped down to the bleeding edge, and see why this chilling tale remains one of the most celebrated musicals of all time. Re-imagined for the Theatreworks stage by Michael Lluberes, this sinister story plunges audiences into a deliciously depraved world of music and madness. but beware: the difference between villainy and virtue isn’t always clean cut.
UCCS students are always free. Contact the box office in person or by phone with your student ID to reserve seats.
This production contains blood, haze, murder, references to suicide and sexual assault, shady business practices, and deeply questionable meat pies. If you have questions about the material or wish to read a copy of the script in advance, please email theatreworks@uccs.edu.
