From Colorado Springs to the World: Nina Elder’s Art of Resilience Comes Home
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (October 14, 2025) — The Galleries of Contemporary Art (GOCA) at the Ent Center for the Arts at UCCS proudly announces The Source Never Diminishes, a solo exhibition by internationally recognized artist Nina Elder, opening Thursday, November 6, 2025 in the Marie Walsh Sharpe Gallery. The exhibition invites audiences to confront ecological grief and resilience through Elder’s imaginative, interdisciplinary practice.
Born in Colorado Springs, Elder has built a career exploring climate disruption, cultural change, and the strange beauty of collapse through drawing, video, sculpture, and writing. In The Source Never Diminishes, she reflects on cycles of endings and beginnings through works that shimmer with resilience and curiosity—glittering sculptures, meditative video, and mixed-media drawings that find grace amid uncertainty. At once playful and profound, these works embrace humor, empathy, and mystery in the face of environmental upheaval.
“As ecological precarity grows and my hometown changes, I believe only art can hold the complex emotions and diverse perspectives of this moment,” says Elder. “With The Source Never Diminishes, I want to create space for reflection, joy, and even humor in the face of uncertainty.”
This exhibition is presented as part of Elder’s two-month residency with GOCA, during which she will lead community workshops, facilitate conversations across disciplines, and build the participatory project The Solastalgic Archive, opening in GOCA’s Project Space in January 2026. Together, these projects offer audiences opportunities not just to view Elder’s art, but to actively engage with themes of transformation, memory, and resilience.
Adding to the season’s innovation, GOCA will present House of GOCA: Stardust on February 20, 2026—a dazzling fashion-meets-art runway experience directly inspired by Elder’s explorations of voids, black holes, and transformation. This signature event is one of the most anticipated creative evenings in the region, bridging visual art, performance, and community celebration.
