Theatreworks Colorado Springs Presents “Heart Sellers”: A Poignant Comedy About Friendship, Identity, and the Immigrant Experience
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — January 8, 2025 – Theatreworks Colorado Springs builds on the inclusive storytelling of 2023’s “Aubergine” with the 2025 production of “Heart Sellers” by Lloyd Suh. This heartfelt comedy explores the immigrant experience with warmth and humor. Set in the 1970s, the play follows Jane and Luna, two immigrants from Korea and the Philippines, as they form an unexpected bond over a Thanksgiving dinner. What begins as an awkward encounter evolves into a moving story about friendship, belonging, and resilience.
Directed by Jenna Moll Reyes, “Heart Sellers” features a talented cast and will include supertitles in English, Filipino, and Korean—marking Theatreworks’ second multilingual production.
Celia Kyoung Kim (Jane) shares, "There are not that many plays that feature Asian characters, even more so a Korean immigrant like myself. I'm looking forward to exploring and sharing this character, whose experiences and cultural background mirrors mine."
Dri Hernáez (Luna) notes, "This story is an echo of my parents' experience immigrating to the U.S. Luna's character resonates deeply with me as an Asian American living in the Midwest because, in many ways, not much has changed."
Scenic and costume designer Debra Kim Sivigny adds, "I'm excited to work on a play about the immigrant experience—especially one set in the era when my mother came to the U.S. It’s fascinating to explore this through the lives of others who made similar journeys."
"Heart Sellers" runs Thursday, January 30 through Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the Ent Center for the Arts. Tickets are available at entarts.org or by calling (719) 255-8181.
