Theatreworks Presents a Haunting Adaptation of Henry James' "Turn of the Screw"

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Feb 25, 2025 – Theatreworks at the Ent Center for the Arts is set to captivate audiences with Jeffrey Hatcher's stage adaptation of Henry James' classic novella, "Turn of the Screw." Directed by Kristin Skye Hoffmann, this production runs from March 13 through April 6, 2025, in the intimate setting of the Osborne Studio Theater.

Set in an isolated manor on the windswept moors, the story follows a young governess tasked with caring for two enigmatic children. As she uncovers unsettling secrets, the line between reality and imagination blurs, challenging audiences to discern the truth behind the eerie occurrences. This adaptation intensifies the original's mystery, inviting theatergoers to experience one of literature's most enduring ghost stories up close.

Director Kristin Skye Hoffmann brings a fresh perspective to this timeless tale. "Our goal is to immerse the audience in an atmosphere thick with suspense and ambiguity," Hoffmann explains. "By focusing on the psychological depth of the characters and the claustrophobic setting, we aim to leave viewers questioning what they've seen and heard."

The production features a talented duo of actors: Annie Barbour as The Woman and Bradley Alan Zarr as The Man. Their dynamic performances promise to bring the complex characters to life, enhancing the story's tension and emotional resonance.

In addition to the performances, Theatreworks offers several opportunities for audience engagement:

  • Designer Hang: A pre-show discussion with the creative team on Thursday, March 13, from 6:45 PM to 7:15 PM.
  • Actor Interchange: A post-show discussion with the cast on Sunday, March 23, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
