Willkommen to the Party: Theatreworks Opens 50th Season with an Immersive, Seductive Revival of "Cabaret"

Colorado Springs, CO (August 12, 2025) – This fall, the Dusty Loo Bon Vivant Theater transforms into the decadent Kit Kat Club as Theatreworks kicks off its 50th birthday season with a bold, immersive revival of Cabaret, running September 18–October 12 at the Ent Center for the Arts at UCCS.

Directed by Spring’s favorite and Green Box’s Executive Director Scott RC Levy, this production invites audiences not just to witness the story—but to step inside it. The theatre becomes the club, including some immersive seating that blurs the line between audience and performance. A handful of lucky guests will find themselves seated mere inches from the glitter, the grit, and the risqué glamour of a 1930s Berlin on the brink.

“In Cabaret, we’re chasing that feeling of wild freedom right before the world changes forever,” says Max Shulman, Artistic Director of Theatreworks. “The production urges us to embrace the impulse to “leave our troubles at the door” and lose ourselves in the music, movement, and temptations of the Kit Kat Club. All the while, this powerful work reminds us of the danger of surrender and that at any moment, the world can come crashing back.”

This classic American musical never fails to shock and seduce—it’s raw, revelatory, and charged with electricity. From the moment the lights rise, the cast draws you into a world of desire, exuberance, and decadence led by the Emcee and “the toast of Mayfair” Sally Bowles!

“59 years on, Cabaret remains one of the great American musicals because it dares to seduce and repel in equal measure,” says director Scott RC Levy. “Walking the tightrope between celebration and collapse—this production is designed to take us all to the edge.”

As part of its 50th birthday celebration, Theatreworks will host a special opening night celebration on Friday, September 19, welcoming longtime supporters, new faces, and community partners to toast the next 50 years of bold and joyful local theatre. Guests can expect libations, birthday surprises, and an unforgettable night inside the club where “life is beautiful.”

Cabaret was first staged by Theatreworks back in 1987, and it’s a story the world keeps returning to—for good reason,” Shulman adds. “There’s something about its allure—its tension between escapism and reckoning—that remains timeless. This fall, we invite everyone to step back into the theatre with us, to celebrate what we’ve built—and dream big about where we are going.”
